Hippotherapy Study Day

Our Hippotherapy Study Day is a practical, hands-on learning experience designed to strengthen your confidence, handling skills, and clinical reasoning in real-world hippotherapy practice.

Delivered in a small-group format, this immersive day gives you the opportunity to observe and participate in real therapy sessions while developing clear, transferable strategies for your own clinical setting. 

Supported by 2 online meetings ( one before and one after) we ensure you get the most out of your day whilst keeping the study day to one day, reducing the amount of time spent away from home.

How Often We Run the Study Day

We will be offering this study day twice per year, giving you flexibility in planning your professional development and CPD across the year. 

In 2026, we will be offering the following dates:

Friday 1 May ( need at least 3 registered participants by 10 April)

Friday 2 October ( need at least 3 registered participants by 2 September)

Numbers on each study day are intentionally kept small to protect the quality of learning and ensure every participant has meaningful, supported clinical experience.

  • Maximum 5 participants per study day

  • Minimum 3 participants required for the course to go ahead

  • Course cost £175 includes lunch - Contact Jo if you need support with travel logistics

  • Venue: Washington Riding Centre, NE37 3HR (30 mins from Newcastle)

  • Confirmation and payments will be made one month prior to the study day

If fewer than three participants are booked one month before the start date, the study day will not run and alternative dates will be offered.

Why We Keep Numbers Small

Hippotherapy is a highly practical and clinical skill. By limiting numbers, we ensure:

  • Individualised feedback on handling skills, and gaining experience using appropriate positions in hippotherapy

  • Meaningful involvement in assessment and treatment planning

  • Active participation in real therapy sessions

  • Space for supported clinical reasoning discussions

This is not a lecture-style course — it is an engaged, collaborative learning experience.

Who It’s For

This study day is designed for HCPC physiotherapists who have completed a hippotherapy course and would like to further develop their practical skills and clinical confidence.

It is particularly ideal for those who are completing or have recently completed their hippotherapy training, as well as more experienced practitioners who would benefit from focused supervision and clinical support in their practice.

Participants may attend more than once as part of their ongoing CPD. Each study day will have different participants, discussions, and clinical experiences, meaning returning therapists will continue to gain new insights and learning opportunities each time.

This makes the study day a valuable option for therapists who want to:

  • Refine practical handling skills

  • Increase confidence in assessment and goal setting

  • Deepen clinical reasoning

  • Practice hippotherapy under the supervision of an experienced clinician 

  • Gain experience working with real clients

  • Translate skills directly into their own practice
