HETI: Helping People Make Changes For The Best Outcomes For Horses And Humans
This session will introduce ideas from a model of human behaviour change and then an evidence based intervention that are now being used with success within the animal health and welfare world. The Stages of Change Model looks at different stages that people go through when considering and making change. This presentation will give a brief outline and some ideas about how workers can respond to people in the different stages.
The evidence based intervention called Motivational Interviewing will then be introduced. This is a recognised and well researched method of communication to support people to consider and to make changes.
HETI Autumn Forum at HorseWorld
The Autumn forum will focus on both Horse and Human and how critical is it to get that relationship right - the co-morphic partnership.
In particular we will cover how we each determine whether our services are right for the individual human and whether EAS is right for the horse. Given the large variation of offerings within EAS and a number of different ways horses can be involved it really is a case of HORSES FOR COURSES.
We look forward to sharing and discussing assessment criteria and learning from everyone’s experiences.
HETI(UK) AUTUMN FORUM
11th October 2024 10am – 4pm
at TheHorseCourse, Weymouth, DT3 5DL
MINIMAL PARKING so 25 attendee limit. (Max 2 from any organisation).
This Forum will be devoted to scoping out a multi-site EAS efficacy study – so we really want attendees who are keen to participate in research about the EFFECTIVENESS of their EAS service! We hope to demystify and empower practitioners to take an active role in research.
The day will be run in a workshop style to aid collaboration, with a few short presentations to empower us all to fully participate.
Professor Ann Hemingway and Kez Sullivan will speak on:
The EAS evidence base to date and where the gaps are
Types of studies – and what is involved for practitioners
And will be there to answer questions and provide guidance all day
Various HETI members will give 10 minute updates on multi-site studies they are already involved with.
OPEN CALL – Please email if you would like to present in this section.
We will then work together to identify common referral criteria and outcomes; think about existing datasets; brainstorm study designs and aim to end the day with concrete plans for one or several studies!
Bring your own lunch (or there is an M&S food shop nearby). After lunch there will be a “have a go”, session with TheHorseCourse ponies and facilitators for those who wish to see/experience our approach, before we continue the brainstorming.

Horses & Humans Webinar with Jane Faulker
Join Jane Faulker on Wednesday, June 25th at 7:00pm (ET) as she explores how equine -assisted approaches can help individuals return to themselves and live with greater presence and integrity.
In a fast-paced world, we often lose touch with the innate wisdom and timing of our bodies—a disconnection that can leave us feeling fragmented and overwhelmed. Slowing down to truly feel and be with ourselves has become a rare practice, yet it is essential for rediscovering authenticity and aligning with our true needs.
Horses naturally offer a space for this reconnection. Their presence invites stillness, curiosity, and a deeper exploration of who we are. By working with horses, we can begin to trust our felt sense, rebuild the bridge between brain and body, and reconnect with the wisdom that guides us back to our authentic self.
This webinar will explore how to support clients in accessing their body’s innate wisdom, relearning to trust their experience, and fostering a harmonious connection between mind and body.
Key Topics Include:
The role of horses in facilitating somatic awareness and authenticity.
Techniques for guiding clients to reconnect with their felt sense.
Strategies for helping clients restore trust in their body’s wisdom.

About this eventConformation: A Biomechanical Perspective
Have you ever wondered whether it’s better to select a horse with a long or a short back, a more or less angulated hock, high or low withers? Would you like to know which conformational features make it difficult for a horse to progress beyond the intermediate levels of competition? Are you curious about how training might change a horse’s posture and body shape? If so, you might enjoy this well-illustrated 2-hour session as it explores the pros and cons of a variety of conformational features of the neck, back and limbs in relation to how they affect the movement and performance of sport horses.
For all attendees, CPD certificates available as well as a “view only” recording of the session with a 30 day access pass. There will also be a Q and A session with ample opportunity to post questions via our interactive Q&A panel.
